SULLIVAN – The Sullivan Police Department apprehended a suspect who is believed to be involved in a recent arson after a vehicle pursuit Tuesday afternoon. The suspect’s name has not been released pending the issuance of arrest warrants, but the person is currently being held in the city jail, the police department said. The incident began Tuesday afternoon when a Sullivan police officer attempted to stop a vehicle whose driver was wanted for arson of a home located in the 300 block of Cash Street in Sullivan that occurred on March 3, a news release from the police department said. The driver also was wanted by the state fire marshal’s office for arson of a home near Cuba. When police approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated and lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Hughes Ford Road and Hillcrest in Sullivan. The vehicle overturned and came to rest in the front yard of a home near the intersection, the police department said. The occupants in the car where trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Sullivan Fire Department. Both occupants were treated for minor injuries.
