SULLIVAN – A man whose last know residence is Sullivan has been charged with starting a fire while attempting to make methamphetamine. Edward Stidan, 44, was charged Tuesday with felonies for first-degree arson and attempting to produce a controlled substance, according to Crawford County court records. Lt. Dave Roche with the Sullivan Police Department, who helped apprehend Stidan Tuesday afternoon in Sullivan after the suspect’s vehicle crashed during a pursuit, said the man is homeless but his last known residence is Sullivan. The charges stem from Jan. 23, when Stidan was allegedly trying to make meth at a home in the 200 block of Powers Road, located east of Cuba, and started a fire at the residence, a probable cause statement filed with the charges says. Stidan admitted he was attempting to produce anhydrous ammonia while using an open container of propane gas to make meth. He also said others were helping him make it. Stidan also told authorities he knew the woman who owned the home was upstairs with her baby while he made meth in the basement of the house, the probably cause statement says.
